The Women in Machine Learning and Data Science group, also known as WiMLDS, was launched in Montreal on December 3. For the launch, the organizers took advantage of NeurIPSd’s presence in the metropolis to launch their first edition, securing the participation of distinguished female speakers.

The initiative was originally taken by Marina Pavlovic Rivas, founder of Gradiant AI, accompanied by two colleagues, Ghizlene Zerguini, Senior Consultant at Deloitte, and Fanny Riols, Applied Research Scientist at Element AI and co-founder of the Paris chapter of WiMDLS.

There are 19 WiMLDS chapters worldwide. Apart from San Francisco, the Nairobi chapter is the largest, with over 1,800 members. In Montreal, there are nearly 450 members. Their mission is to support and promote women and gender minorities working or studying in the fields of machine learning and data science.
