In recent years, DEI has gained momentum in the corporate world. Getting training in this field can help boost your resume, and bring you up to date on new DEI measures in business. But which training should you take? This list will help you make a more informed decision by naming the most relevant training courses in the field in 2022 to become a consultant.
Certificates & short courses to become an equity, diversity and inclusion consultant
Université Laval learning path
Université Laval offers another option for those wishing to learn more about DEI, without embarking on lengthy and costly training such as a master’s degree. With the virtual learning path, entitled “Equity, Diversity, Inclusion: Understanding for Better Action”, the university offers an option that allows full-time workers to participate in the program, thanks to its mostly asynchronous format.
Program duration: Seven weeks (45 to 60 minutes per week, for a total of 9.5 hours)
Who it’s for: For people who want a short, less expensive training program offered by a recognized university.
Cost: $395
Cornell University’s Certificate in Inclusion and Diversity
Cornell’s Inclusion and Diversity Certificate is a completely distance learning option. According to Cornell, this certificate is made for supervisors and members of management. Cornell’s D&I (Diversity and Inclusion) certificate allows you to get a formal education quickly, one that will be recognized by the international community. If you want an education, but don’t want something very long, this certificate is perfect for you. However, it is quite expensive.
Program duration: Two months (part-time)
Who it’s for: For people who want to become a DEI professional, with recognized training outside Quebec.
Cost: $4551.79 (converted at time of writing to $3600 USD)
Centennial College, Certificate in Leadership & Inclusion
Centennial College offers a certificate in Leadership & Inclusion. As one of the first Canadian institutions to offer training in this field, Centennial College certainly has experience in teaching DEI. This four-course certificate will enable you to develop your knowledge of DEI, with a focus on business applications. For more information on the program, visit the official page.
Program duration: Approximately seven weeks per course, four courses required
Who’s it for? This is for you if you’re a professional, an adult student or someone still in school who wants to earn an official certificate!

Undergraduate programs to become a DEI Consultant
Université TELUQ: Short introductory program in diversity management
TELUQ University offers a 15-credit undergraduate program – the equivalent of a five-course semester – to introduce students to diversity management. If you’re looking for an introduction to the field with an undergraduate program, that’s exactly what TELUQ offers. What’s more, the program stands out for its flexibility, enabling virtual study. Who it’s for: If you want to earn an undergraduate degree and learn more about DEI, this program is for you!

Graduate programs to become a DEI Consultant
Master’s degree from Université Laval
As the first comprehensive Master’s program in the field in Quebec, Université Laval’s Master’s program in DEI is one of the most comprehensive in Canada. Université Laval offers a 45-credit program. The program can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis, and can also be completed entirely by distance learning. It also includes in-company projects to put learning into practice.
Program duration: 45 credits (one and a half years full-time)
Who it’s for: For people wishing to obtain a Master’s degree in the field and have a formal education in DEI.
Cost: University cost, depending on whether you are local, out-of-province or international.
Graduate microprogram from Université Laval
As an alternative to the longer Master’s degree, Université Laval offers a much shorter 12-credit program. This program is offered asynchronously, so it can accommodate people with full-time jobs. The program allows you to deepen your knowledge in the DEI field. Scheduled for 2022, the courses are still relevant today. For more information, visit their page!

Who it’s for: For professionals who want to improve their knowledge of DEI. This course is not an introduction!

Graduate microprogram at UQAR
UQAR also offers a graduate program in DEI. However, this program is shorter than the one at Université Laval, having only 9 credits rather than 12. For full details of UQAR’s program, see the official page.

Who it’s for: For people who want a short program offered by a recognized university in Quebec.
Cost: University cost, depending on whether you are local, out-of-province or international.
Université de Montréal graduate microprogram in diversity management
Université de Montréal offers an option for people wishing to take a 15-credit graduate microprogram, similar to those offered by Université Laval and UQAR.
Program duration: 15 credits
Who it’s for: For the same people who are also interested in the Laval and TELUQ programs. This is another alternative available in Quebec.
Cost: University cost, depending on whether you are local, out-of-province or international.
Accreditation Program
Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion
The CCDI offers an accreditation program to become certified as a “Certified Inclusion Specialist‧e Canada” (SIAC). This program allows you to certify that you are an inclusion specialist and have a document to prove it. On the other hand, there are no apprenticeships included in the program; it’s an exam to earn a credential. For more details on the process, visit their website!
Program duration: One exam and 20 hours of professional development per year.
Who it’s for: Individuals who are already working in the field, but wish to obtain professional certification to enhance their credibility as a consultant.
